3 1/2 Beach Poems

How to be in the world
is a bigger deal
then it first appears.
Coming of age
might happen all
of the time just
like there's a baby
being born somewhere
in the world
not too far away.
We might talk about it.
Wether the ocean is warm
enough for swimming
today.

According to
my Dad, they used
to have trash
cans on the beach
but somehow
the bags would
get out and
there’d be trash
all over the beach.
They don’t have
them anymore and
the beach is
pretty clean.

I’d like to start a poetry
family but the kids keep
multiplying like stars.
Suddenly I noticed the moon
was up and the earth
fell away
over the round edge.
Falling
falling into
your arms, where else?
Whose arms,
she said!

*****

a poem is words
I should understand
but don’t,
my old Pop said.
He turned 90
this year.
